Shimla, the magnificent hill station is the capital of Himachal Pradesh. This place which is even called as the Summer Refuge and Empress of Hill Stations is seated atop of a height of 2202 meters above ocean level. The present Shimla region was build in the year 1972. The place got its name from Shyamala, which is also another name of Goddess Kali. Jakhu, Prospect, astronomical observatory, and Summer which are the crucial hills of this place. The place was announced as the summer capital of British India in the year 1864. It apportioned as the capital of Punjab after freedom. Afterward, Shimla evolves into the capital of Himachal Pradesh. Shimla is known for the largest ice skating rink of India. In winter, the ground is capped with natural snow and this is the time when skating can be enjoyed (December-February). Trekking is also very much popular here.
