Rameshwaram, is a pristine and calm town, lies in the state of Tamil Nadu and is part of the enchanting Pamban Island. Rameshwaram is remarked as one of the holy places of Hindus and the must-visit during Char Dham Yatra. Legend says that Rameshwaram was the place from where Lord Rama, who is believed as the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, had erected the bridge to Sri Lanka in order to rescue his captured spouse Sita from Ravana, the ruler of Lanka. Actually, the word Rameshwara signifies “Place where God(Eswara) was worshipped by Rama” and apparently this is from where the place gets its name.
The well-known Ramanathaswamy Temple is situated in the middle of the city and is dedicated to Rama. The temple is visited each year by lakhs of Hindu to offer prayers and asks blessings from the gods.
