Chidambaram is a city in the southern state of Tamil Nadu in India. Various temples are in the city but Nataraja Temple is one of the prominent ones in Chidambaram. Chidambaram has its own antiquity, which is rich in terms of adoration & festival customs, architectural and sculptural majesty, in its corporation with music and dance, Chidambaram is on second place in the terms to represent the wealthy cultural inheritance of India. Various rich legends are correlated with Chidambaram. The best known, are those narrated the Cosmic Dance of Shiva, the dance joust amongst Shiva and Kaali and the later one portraying the re-revelation of the Tevaram hymns.

The town of Chidambaram has been led by numerous kingdoms throughout the centuries, most eminently the Medieval Cholas, Later Cholas, Pandyas, Vijayanagar Kingdom, the Marathas, and the British. The town is known for the Thillai Nataraja Temple and the yearly chariot celebration held in the month of April. Chidambaram Nataraja Temple was built amid the 11th century and is a standout amongst the most celebrated Shaivite Temples in South India. Lord Nataraja is the family god of Vikrama Chola (1128 CE) and his successors. The 5 Shiva temples are scattered in Tamil Nadu, each of them is related to the 5 components: to be specific air, water, earth, fire, and wind, as indicated by the Hindu ideology of the Pancha Mahabhutas.

  • By Air: Chennai and Tiruchirapalli are closest airports to Chidambaram. Which are situated at a distance of 211 km and 195 km.
  • By Rail: The city has own railway which is well connected all the major city of India. If a tourist is live within India; to reach via railway is a cheap and viable option.
  • By Road: Chidambaram is well connected via road with all the cities of Tamil Nadu. State and Private bus are available from the major cities of state. Tourist can also hire the cabs to reach here.
