Built by the Portuguese, the Aguada fort is presently utilized as a jail. There is a lighthouse inside the fort which is accepted to have been built in the 19th century. this place was named Aguada which implies “water” as there were numerous freshwater springs at the site. It remains as an image of Portuguese impact on the region and as an example of their wonderful architecture. Just a portion of the structures of the building is in great condition today and it’s used as jail now. It is the biggest jail in Goa.
Also a little tidbit, it plays a crucial role in one of the movie scenes in Dil Chahta Hai by Farhan Akhtar.
